Jacob Josef Zurflüh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Avery Merrill, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Jacob Josef Zurflüh showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Avery Merrill in the 10th minute of the match. In the 11th match minute, Canada was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kirk Bell to maneuver through the defense. In the 12th minute of the match Sebastian Allgäuer shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Darrel Pennington showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Camille Trudeau in the 13th minute of play forced Liechtenstein's goalkeeper Jacob Josef Zurflüh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kirk Bell hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. The long shot by Sebastian Allgäuer in the 15th minute really tested Darrel Pennington's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After 16 minutes of play, Canada's Avery Merrill made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jacob Josef Zurflüh was left in no man's land by his defense there! Avery Merrill's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacob Josef Zurflüh read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. In the 19th minute, Avery Merrill ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jacob Josef Zurflüh was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Jacob Josef Zurflüh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kelly Pearson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Canada defense, Dominik Klaus kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Darrel Pennington. The Canada fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Darrel Pennington should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Konstantin Hofmeister in the 32nd minute of play forced Canada's goalkeeper Darrel Pennington to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jacob Josef Zurflüh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Avery Merrill in the 34th minute of play. Canada's Darrel Pennington played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Patrick Hanselmann in the 35th minute of play. In the 37th of the match, Patrick Hanselmann tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Darrel Pennington got in the way and made a wonderful save. The corner ended in Sebastian Allgäuer almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Canada's Darrel Pennington did a great save. 42 minutes into the match, Kelly Pearson notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Liechtenstein's Jacob Josef Zurflüh. Jacob Josef Zurflüh was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Patrick Hanselmann came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Liechtenstein fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patrick Hanselmann couldn't finish the play. Canada's Daron Keen was substituted for Camille Trudeau. After the first half Canada were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Patrick Hanselmann stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Liechtenstein getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Ben Kolbe hit a great ball. 61 minutes into the match, Canada's goal looked a bit too open when Dominik Klaus came free, but Darrel Pennington reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 63 minutes into the match, Canada's goal looked a bit too open when Patrick Hanselmann came free, but Darrel Pennington reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Zlatko Ibrahimović's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacob Josef Zurflüh read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 70th minute of play. Liechtenstein made a substitution. Gerd Milutinov replaced Andreas Fromm. Liechtenstein's Samuel Keller was substituted for Dominik Klaus. In the 73rd minute, Damian Sangrigoli hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 74th minute Zlatko Ibrahimović shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacob Josef Zurflüh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A sloppy throw-in by Sebastian Allgäuer in the 83rd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Canada's Léopold Thomas. 84 minutes into the match, Canada's Zlatko Ibrahimović sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacob Josef Zurflüh narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 85th minute of the match Canada got a corner. Liechtenstein's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Kalonzo Kalogerakis ran over to the corner to take the kick. A very nice done corner allowed Zlatko Ibrahimović to score against Jacob Josef Zurflüh in Liechtenstein's goal. 1-4 after 85 minutes. Darrel Pennington made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Samuel Keller in the 96th minute of play. Jacob Josef Zurflüh came out of the goal in the 97th minute to try and stop a shot by Canada's Zlatko Ibrahimović. But to his dismay, Zlatko Ibrahimović quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-5.
