In the 13th match minute, SAN LORENZO FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sergio Marchi to maneuver through the defense. After 20 played minutes Inter de Chillán got a freekick which was hit by Disvandis Carvajal. After 25 played minutes SAN LORENZO FC got a freekick which was hit by Froilan Jatsu. In the 33rd minute, Disvandis Carvajal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 35th minute, Juan Luis Dittborn ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. John Locke was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Disvandis Carvajal made in the 40th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Giuseppe Meazza however managed to control. After 44 played minutes Inter de Chillán got a freekick which was hit by Disvandis Carvajal. José Ignacio Rocha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciriaco Cordarrell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Juan Luis Dittborn to make the kick off. SAN LORENZO FC's John Locke proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save SAN LORENZO FC from getting a goal against them.
