Antônio Carlos Cavalcante made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vito Arruda in the 30th minute of play. In the 31st minute, Serafim Simão got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With an all-out effort, Palestra do Interior's Rogério Ceni threw himself towards the right post 33 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ivo Fantini, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jhon Barcellos in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rogério Ceni saved Divina Comédia FC from getting behind. The supporters of Palestra do Interior booed when Divina Comédia FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vito Arruda didn't get a good kick on the ball. 47 minutes into the game, Hortêncio Viana was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Divina Comédia FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Palestra do Interior the free kick. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Serafim Simão to make the kick off.
