After 44 played minutes, Castanheiro SC's Sebastião Paulista shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Wawrzyniec Poling came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Castanheiro SC reached it. After the first half Castanheiro SC were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The referee ignored Castanheiro SC's protests and gave Marco Bezerra a yellow card for diving instead. Castanheiro SC's Dagoberto de Queirós played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cyryl Patrylo in the 93rd minute of play. In the 93rd match minute, Castanheiro SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sandrinho Godoi to maneuver through the defense. The Castanheiro SC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Castanheiro SC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
