But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Genaro Frechoso couldn't finish the play. Nicanor Fanuco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nicanor Fanuco stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the game, Desiderio Corderun cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Nicolas Urko was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Nicanor Fanuco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Las Palmas's supporters rose to their feet, but Nicanor Fanuco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Amancio Paez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Wilfredo Gil hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match.
