Walter Fransson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adriano de Brito, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Elder Pena might have been able to make a better finish in the 30th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Walter Fransson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Elder Pena ran back to his position shaking his head. Emerson Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andreas Furcas in the 32nd minute of play. Adriano de Brito shot from long distance in the 34th minute, but Walter Fransson was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. 44 minutes into the match, Fire Devils's goal looked a bit too open when Osvaldo Shantala came free, but Walter Fransson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 47th minute, Fire Devils's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Matías Marques fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Andreas Furcas was the one to do the kick off. In the 75th minute Osvaldo Shantala shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Walter Fransson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
