Sunkens Surtröjor's Sokol Narev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Octavian Basten in the 11th minute of play. Uwe Ziege was out of position in the 13 minute of play, and Victor Blom capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Victor Blom really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Uwe Ziege made an important save on a dangerous shot by Victor Blom in the 16th minute. A hard shot 18 in the game by Victor Blom from a close distance when the talented Uwe Ziege managed to make a qualified save. Rot-Weiss-Essen's players were relieved. Uwe Ziege took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victor Blom, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Victor Blom came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Sunkens Surtröjor fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Victor Blom couldn't finish the play. Hugo Haupt's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sokol Narev read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. Victor Bloms short, quick shot in the 26thth minute got Uwe Ziege to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The crowd rose to their feet as Sunkens Surtröjor's Victor Blom slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Uwe Ziege. That made the score 2-0 after 33 minutes of play. Sokol Narev took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anestis Kotsopoulos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hugo Haupt in the 42nd minute of play forced Sunkens Surtröjor's goalkeeper Sokol Narev to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Victor Blom in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Uwe Ziege saved Rot-Weiss-Essen from getting behind. Sokol Narev took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugo Haupt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 46thth minute of the game Octavian Basten who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sunkens Surtröjor's Sokol Narev was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Octavian Basten stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 59 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Rot-Weiss-Essen! Sunkens Surtröjor made a substitution. Anton Galle replaced Victor Blom. Sunkens Surtröjor's Sokol Narev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mesut Özil in the 64th minute of play. In the 72nd minute, Anton Galle ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Uwe Ziege was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. 76 minutes into the game, Frans Alström cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-0. Uwe Ziege was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Uwe Ziege made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anton Galle in the 83rd minute of play. In the 84th match minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marco-Antonio van Basten to maneuver through the defense. Uwe Ziege stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Anton Galle's shot from short distance in the 85th minute. Anton Galle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uwe Ziege having to interfere. Anton Galle's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Uwe Ziege read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 94th minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the Rot-Weiss-Essen players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Sunkens Surtröjor.
