Florentino Paul made the kick off and thus started the match. 3 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Florentino Paul came free, but Rui Varela reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rui Varela took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paco Gento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Florentino Paul recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Grêmio FBPA booed when GUSESI was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Florentino Paul didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rui Varela took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Florentino Paul, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Santos Kiliz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dino Castro, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. GUSESI's Santos Kiliz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dino Castro in the 29th minute of play. Santos Kiliz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dino Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rui Varela made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Marco Ostargi sent off a good shot on target. In the 37th minute Paco Gento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Grêmio FBPA's Rui Varela played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Florentino Paul in the 39th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Dino Castro made a kick off. After 52 minutes, Dudu Negri mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Grêmio FBPA and the GUSESI players grew even worse after the yellow card. Marco Ostargi struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Rui Varela didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GUSESI. Rui Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marco Ostargi in the 58th minute of the match. In the 62nd minute Marco Ostargi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rui Varela showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Florentino Paul, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paco Gento in the 64th minute of play forced Grêmio FBPA's goalkeeper Rui Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 67 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Marco Ostargi came free, but Rui Varela reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Grêmio FBPA's Edu Veiga got a free kick in the 68th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio FBPA's zone, Florentino Paul stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rui Varela came out of the goal and Florentino Paul tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Enrique Pires recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 77th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 79th minute the ball was on its way in behind GUSESI's goalkeeper Santos Kiliz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 81st minute Enrique Pires shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santos Kiliz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 87 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Florentino Paul came free, but Rui Varela reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rui Varela took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paco Gento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Florentino Paul came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the GUSESI fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Florentino Paul couldn't finish the play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. GUSESI had played much better football throughout.
