Väino Kartul received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Desiderio Frederik tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 7 minutes into the match, Grimório's Väino Kartul sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Desiderio Frederik narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Väino Kartul took the ball and in the 9 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Desiderio Frederik. Desiderio Frederik dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. 13 minutes into the match, Blas-Armando Giunta had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Uudo Lant. Grimório's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Blas-Armando Giunta was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Desiderio Frederik took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erkki Leesment, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Desiderio Frederik showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erkki Leesment in the 20th minute of the match. The throw-in from Amadeo Panpili in the 23rd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Grimório's Kardo Pihlakas. Desiderio Frederik made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaagup Valgupera in the 32nd minute of play. Erkki Leesment fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Desiderio Frederik having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jaagup Valgupera in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Desiderio Frederik saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. Uudo Lant made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when Blas-Armando Giunta sent off a good shot on target. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Blas-Armando Giunta to make the kick off. Jaagup Valgupera sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 54 minutes into the match, Väino Kartul notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Sporting de Gijón's Desiderio Frederik. Desiderio Frederik was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Desiderio Frederik made an important save on a dangerous shot by Erkki Leesment in the 61st minute. In the 62nd match minute, Grimório was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Väino Kartul to maneuver through the defense. Sporting de Gijón's Arnoldo Ubarna was substituted for Amadeo Panpili. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Lautaro Blanco replaced Gustavo Quintin. In the 64th match minute, Grimório was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Väino Kartul to maneuver through the defense. Erkki Leesment took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Desiderio Frederik. Desiderio Frederik dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-4. Erkki Leesment hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. In the 75th minute Celedonio Kinsen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uudo Lant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Desiderio Frederik made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaagup Valgupera in the 77th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Grimório's Erkki Leesment slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Desiderio Frederik. That made the score 1-5 after 78 minutes of play. If Jaagup Valgupera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Erkki Leesment got free with Desiderio Frederik in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 88 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Jaagup Valgupera came free, but Desiderio Frederik reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jaagup Valgupera in the 91st minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Desiderio Frederik to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Celedonio Kinsen got a free kick in the 91st minute. In the 94th minute Jaagup Valgupera shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Desiderio Frederik saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 96th minute Grimório were awarded a corner. Ernst Võsandi went to the cornerflag to take it. Grimório played a much better game than Sporting de Gijón and deserved their victory. The Sporting de Gijón players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
