The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Fire Devils booed when Club Puerto Quito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcelo Noceda didn't get a good kick on the ball. 24 minutes into the match, Fire Devils's goal looked a bit too open when Pepito Plasencia came free, but Toto Caputo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Lukas Schallberger was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 35 minutes into the match. In a very dangerous position, a player in Fire Devils fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 35th minute. Penalty! Toto Caputo had in the 38thth minute some difficulties stopping Marcelo Noceda's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Oswaldo Barrionuevo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 40thth minute tested the skills of Toto Caputo when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Toto Caputo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Urki Espino, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Fire Devils's Toto Caputo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save Fire Devils from getting a goal against them. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Urki Espino was the one to do the kick off. But to his dismay, Oswaldo Barrionuevo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. In the 59th minute, Denis Lambrozzi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fire Devils's Toto Caputo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oswaldo Barrionuevo in the 61st minute of play. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Loris Hellmüller couldn't finish the play.
