When Sascha Andre Rennert came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the Rot-Weiss-Essen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sascha Andre Rennert couldn't finish the play. In the 10th match minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gunther Schößler to maneuver through the defense. Absalon Domini's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Uwe Ziege firmly grabbed it by the left post. Thorfinn Birkvad's late challenge caught a Rot-Weiss-Essen's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Thorfinn Birkvad helped the player get up and apologised. Thorfinn Birkvad kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. After having played for 15 minutes, Hannes Kapell managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rot-Weiss-Essen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hannes Kapell was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thorkild Plougmann showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ivo Claus, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Björn Mokros in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Thorkild Plougmann saved Sletteenge from getting behind. Absalon Domini who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 22ndth minute tested the skills of Uwe Ziege when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 25th minute Ivo Claus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thorkild Plougmann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Absalon Domini received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Uwe Ziege came out and tried to block the shot, but Absalon Domini slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 28th minute. With a little luck, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege got control of the ball when Valther Fønsskov tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thorkild Plougmann showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sascha Andre Rennert, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ivo Claus in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Thorkild Plougmann prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Vasco Jackisch charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vasco Jackisch the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 42 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Vasco Jackisch. Thorkild Plougmann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ivo Claus in the 45th minute of play. With 46 minutes on the clock, Jo Felski commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 47th match minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jo Felski to maneuver through the defense. Sletteenge's supporters stood up full of expectation in the 49th minute of the game, when Christopher Remke after an extraordinary solo performance found himself with a golden opportunity in front of Rot-Weiss-Essen's goal. Christopher Remke was unfortunally a little to anxious and the ball went outside the goal.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Absalon Domini stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Rot-Weiss-Essen getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Gunther Schößler hit a great ball. 55 minutes into the match, Sletteenge's Gustav Balkov broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Sletteenge's Absalon Domini got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Uwe Ziege showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Absalon Domini, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. In the 63rd match minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maurizio Brink to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Absalon Domini in the 66th minute of play forced Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Uwe Ziege to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thorkild Plougmann showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ivo Claus in the 90th minute of the match. After 91 minutes Sletteenge's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Hannes Kapell who took care of the corner kick. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Hannes Kapell was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Thorkild Plougmann in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Sletteenge's Thorkild Plougmann proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 92nd minute of the match, managed to save Sletteenge from getting a goal against them. Ivo Claus recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sletteenge were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Rot-Weiss-Essen to leave the ground with a draw.
