Merrill Banks received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Basarab Pârcălab came out and tried to block the shot, but Merrill Banks slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 15th minute. After 21 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Carpathians! The supporters of Racing Miami Futbol Club booed when Carpathians was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Santana didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Carpathians fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Basarab Pârcălab should have stopped the shot. Basarab Pârcălab showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Merrill Banks in the 62nd minute of the match. 65 minutes into the match, Carpathians's goal looked a bit too open when Merrill Banks came free, but Basarab Pârcălab reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Basarab Pârcălab made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Merrill Banks in the 71st minute of play. In the 91st minute, James Joyner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Franco Di Giambattista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Santana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Racing Miami Futbol Club's Shane Smiley got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Carpathians's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
