Durval de Salles charged in rather forcefully in the 7th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Durval de Salles the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Astillero del Guayas booed when ☆ PERÓXIDOS ☆ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Durval de Salles didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Zarando Eguizabal could shoot a difficult shot in the 8th minute, which Claudinho Taffarel however easily saved by the left post. In the 13th minute of the match, Dani Galiana tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Claudinho Taffarel saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 16th minute Zarando Eguizabal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudinho Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 18th minute, Ulizes Sola ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Claudinho Taffarel was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Claudinho Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zarando Eguizabal in the 22nd minute. In the 26th minute, Dráusio Brodel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Claudinho Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ulizes Sola in the 27th minute of play. Claudinho Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dani Galiana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With his leg Claudinho Taffarel managed to avoid a goal in the 30thth minute, when Astillero del Guayas's Ulizes Sola fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. ☆ PERÓXIDOS ☆'s defense didn't have a chance, in the 33rd minute, when Javier Landeras scored to the left of an out of position Claudinho Taffarel, making the score, 2-0. Claudinho Taffarel came out of the goal in the 42nd minute to try and stop a shot by Astillero del Guayas's Javier Landeras. But to his dismay, Javier Landeras quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. 45 minutes into the match, Cevallos Provencio had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Claudinho Taffarel. ☆ PERÓXIDOS ☆'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Cevallos Provencio was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 5-0 at half-time.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dráusio Brodel to make the kick off. Claudinho Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Javier Landeras in the 53rd minute of play.
