Helmuth Duckadam made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. 12 minutes into the match, Emerald's Victor Piţurcă sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Helmuth Duckadam narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Helmuth Duckadam took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victor Piţurcă, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Victor Piţurcă sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The supporters of Emerald booed when The Sharks Constanta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manos Tochouroglou didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 20th minute, Victor Piţurcă left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Emerald fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. 23 minutes into the match, Emerald's goal looked a bit too open when Artur Prohorov came free, but Bogdan Lobonț reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Helmuth Duckadam made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Victor Piţurcă in the 26th minute of play. After 27 minutes of play, Emerald's Victor Piţurcă made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Helmuth Duckadam was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some careless play in the The Sharks Constanta defense, Victor Piţurcă kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Helmuth Duckadam. The The Sharks Constanta fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Helmuth Duckadam should have stopped the shot. 41 minutes into the match, Emerald's goalkeeper Bogdan Lobonț had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Juliusz J.J.. Victor Piţurcă blasted a shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Helmuth Duckadam having to make a save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-5 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Victor Piţurcă was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Victor Piţurcă in the 55th minute of play forced The Sharks Constanta's goalkeeper Helmuth Duckadam to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But to his dismay, Victor Piţurcă quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-6. Victor Piţurcă sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Victor Piţurcă received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Helmuth Duckadam came out and tried to block the shot, but Victor Piţurcă slotted it home off the left post making it 1-7 in the 72nd minute. In the 78th minute, Victor Piţurcă hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 94 minutes into the game, Manos Tochouroglou threw the ball into play from the sideline. Emerald's Damian Furlit quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Emerald's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
