New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gabriel Vermeşan in the 10th minute of play. 15 minutes had been played when some careless play by New York Red Bulls's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jaime Carioca was slow to take the kick. During this time Emerald's players had a chance to rest. But to his dismay, Victor Piţurcă quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 21 minutes had been played when some careless play by Emerald's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Basarab Panduru was slow to take the kick. During this time New York Red Bulls's players had a chance to rest. The corner led New York Red Bulls's Liviu Bărănescu to fire away a dangerous shot which Bogdan Lobonț despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. When Emerald's Gabriel Vermeşan in the 26th minute got a chance for a shot 26th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Eduardo Pereyra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gabriel Vermeşan, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Emerald's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jaime Carioca in the 36th minute. Eduardo Pereyra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gabriel Vermeşan in the 41st minute of play. In the 44th minute, Gabriel Vermeşan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gabriel Mălaimare made in the 46th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Valeriu Râmniceanu however managed to control.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nazım Taci to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, George Schiau ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bogdan Lobonț was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 56th minute of the match, Gabriel Vermeşan tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Eduardo Pereyra saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nazım Taci in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bogdan Lobonț prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The corner led Emerald's Jaime Carioca to fire away a dangerous shot which Eduardo Pereyra despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 81 minutes into the match, Emerald's Victor Piţurcă sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eduardo Pereyra narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 83 minutes into the match, Emerald's goal looked a bit too open when Nazım Taci came free, but Bogdan Lobonț reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Gabriel Mălaimare managed to get in a good position for a shot. Emerald's supporters rose to their feet, but Gabriel Mălaimare was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
