Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nacho Romero ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 25 minutes, Ebbo Böse mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Rot-Weiss-Essen and the Clube Esportivo Saudade players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 26th minute, Ebbo Böse hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Clube Esportivo Saudade's Ritchie Roig proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save Clube Esportivo Saudade from getting a goal against them. In the 44th minute, Ebbo Böse hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 45th minute of the match Nacho Romero sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Uwe Ziege skillfully saved the ball. After the first half Clube Esportivo Saudade were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Armando Reina stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 50 minutes into the match, Clube Esportivo Saudade's Bernat Laredo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Uwe Ziege narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The supporters of Rot-Weiss-Essen booed when Clube Esportivo Saudade was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugo Benedicto didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 56th minute, Erkan Fostiropoulos sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Clube Esportivo Saudade's Ritchie Roig didn't even have to move. When the match had gone on for 65 minutes, Armando Reina took a quick shot and it went in 0-4 without a chance for Uwe Ziege to make any attempt to save it. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save Rot-Weiss-Essen from getting a goal against them. After having played for 71 minutes, Armando Reina managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Clube Esportivo Saudade's supporters crossed their fingers, but Armando Reina was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Vasco Jackisch got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Nacho Romero, 73 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Ritchie Roig showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erkan Fostiropoulos, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Uwe Ziege made an important save on a dangerous shot by Armando Reina in the 80th minute. A collision led to Clube Esportivo Saudade getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Armando Reina hit a great ball. Armando Reina might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Uwe Ziege. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Armando Reina ran back to his position shaking his head. When Bernat Laredo came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Clube Esportivo Saudade fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bernat Laredo couldn't finish the play. Armando Reina sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Armando Reina fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uwe Ziege having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Vasco Jackisch got a free kick in the 94th minute. Nacho Romero recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Clube Esportivo Saudade's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
