A collision led to FC Politehnica Timisoara getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Teodor Lucaci hit a great ball. After 19 minutes, Pompiliu Cobzeanu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Politehnica Timisoara and the Expresso Ranelagh players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 41st minute, Expresso Ranelagh's Márcio Lago ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Tiberiu Mischie. Tiberiu Mischie yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 6-0. Márcio Lago recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With 46 minutes on the clock, Cesare Raimondi commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After a rather tough play, Expresso Ranelagh's Cesare Raimondi got a free kick in the 47th minute. When Ernest Eftimescu came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the FC Politehnica Timisoara fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernest Eftimescu couldn't finish the play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 6-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zacarias Umea to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ernest Eftimescu in the 52nd minute of play forced Expresso Ranelagh's goalkeeper Pablo Lohitzun to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Expresso Ranelagh were awarded a corner in the 56th minute after FC Politehnica Timisoara's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Valentino Rosas took the corner.
