But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mil Vandamme couldn't finish the play. Noroeste Paulista's Cláudio Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mil Vandamme in the 7th minute of play. Cláudio Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mil Vandamme, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Mil Vandamme's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cláudio Taffarel was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. Vincent Dekeyser made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Geovânio Quirino in the 18th minute of play. After 23 played minutes North Hill United got a freekick which was hit by Benjamin Clement. Cauã Borges's late challenge caught a North Hill United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cauã Borges helped the player get up and apologised. Cauã Borges hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. 28 minutes into the match, Noroeste Paulista's goal looked a bit too open when Mil Vandamme came free, but Cláudio Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. David De Raeijmaecker hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. In the 33rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Noroeste Paulista's goalkeeper Cláudio Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Noroeste Paulista's Geovânio Quirino got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Romeo Vandamme hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Cláudio Taffarel was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 49th match minute, North Hill United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnauld Gramet to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Cláudio Taffarel was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. 67 minutes into the match, Noroeste Paulista's goal looked a bit too open when Mil Vandamme came free, but Cláudio Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 68 minutes into the match, Noroeste Paulista's goalkeeper Cláudio Taffarel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by David De Raeijmaecker. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Noroeste Paulista lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
