The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 11th minute of the game. One of Rangers FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of FÊNIX F.C.:s goal. In the 19th minute, Waldir Brito ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fergus Fairbairn was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. When Raymond Johnston fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rangers FC's protests and gave Raymond Johnston a yellow card for diving instead. In the 25th minute, Raymond Johnston hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 30 minutes into the match, Rangers FC's goal looked a bit too open when Armando Saldanha came free, but Fergus Fairbairn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fergus Fairbairn made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Waldir Brito sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Rangers FC booed when FÊNIX F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Waldir Brito didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Armando Saldanha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Raymond Johnston stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Danny Gilespie in the 51st minute of play forced FÊNIX F.C.'s goalkeeper Otávio da Mata to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Raymond Johnston recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Rangers FC's zone, Waldir Brito stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fergus Fairbairn came out of the goal and Waldir Brito tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When FÊNIX F.C.'s Armando Saldanha in the 65th minute got a chance for a shot 65th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Shane Lansdale didn't get a good kick on the ball. 88 minutes into the match, Waldir Brito notched a goal, 5-1, to the right of Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn. Fergus Fairbairn was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FÊNIX F.C. fully deserved thier win.
