Flamengo FSCMZ's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eusébio Andrade was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Flamengo FSCMZ's zone, Tião Tróia stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luís Fábio Silveira came out of the goal and Tião Tróia tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 46th match minute, Flamengo FSCMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Belmiro Monteiro to maneuver through the defense. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

If Celso Nascimento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tião Tróia succeeded in the game's 63rd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 5-0. Perivaldo Furlan kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. Palmeiras's Carlos Augusto Recife played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro Luiz Teles in the 68th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amadeo Tuste in the 75th minute of play forced Flamengo FSCMZ's goalkeeper Luís Fábio Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tião Tróia couldn't finish the play.
