Caxias do Sul's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave MAFFIAN the free kick. Jean-Claude Van Damme sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vitor José made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 20th minute of play. In the 24th minute MAFFIAN were awarded a corner. Sylvester Stallone went to the cornerflag to take it. Sylvester Stallone received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Vitor José tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of MAFFIAN booed when S.E.R. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jean-Claude Van Damme got free with Vitor José in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Kjell-Arne Hultman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Carlos Gaspar, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Arnold Schwarzenegger took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Vitor José to make any attempt to save it. With a little luck, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Vitor José got control of the ball when Sylvester Stallone tried to sneak it across the goal line. Vitor José made a fantastic save in the 44th minute, when Jean-Claude Van Damme sent off a good shot on target. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Carlos Alberto Viana made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th match minute, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivo Mello to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Ivo Mello got a free kick in the 55th minute. MAFFIAN's Michael Klack was substituted for Christer Wassenius. A collision led to S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Vitor José. Vitor José made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 66th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 69th minute of play forced S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Vitor José to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. João Carlos Gaspar blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Kjell-Arne Hultman having to make a save. 75 minutes into the match, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goal looked a bit too open when Arnold Schwarzenegger came free, but Vitor José reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 78 minutes into the game, MAFFIAN's Alvar Kollberg nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Vitor José made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Vitor José played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sylvester Stallone in the 84th minute of play. Vitor José took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnold Schwarzenegger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 94 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by César Sá. In the 95th minute of the match Jörn Gustafsson shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Vitor José showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. MAFFIAN walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
