The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Gustaw Ruszkowski the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Zacisze Częstochowa protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Gustaw Ruszkowski had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Zacisze Częstochowa fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 3rd minute. Penalty! The referee gave Gædd FK a penalty, 5 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Kjetil Hellevik, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Zacisze Częstochowa's Przemyslaw Taffarel. 0-1. Severin Hussein hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. When Karol Kolbe fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Zacisze Częstochowa's protests and gave Karol Kolbe a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Gædd FK booed when Zacisze Częstochowa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Karol Kolbe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gædd FK's Tor-Ivar Mæhle played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Walery Adamowicz in the 16th minute of play. After 24 played minutes Gædd FK got a freekick which was hit by Edvin Bredesen. Edvin Bredesen hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Walery Adamowicz's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Tor-Ivar Mæhle firmly grabbed it by the left post. Wieslaw Imbor recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Gædd FK's Andreas Berglund got a free kick in the 40th minute. Gædd FK's Andreas Berglund got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Zacisze Częstochowa's Przemyslaw Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gard Borlaug in the 47th minute of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gard Borlaug stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Przemyslaw Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kjartan Kroken in the 56th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Walery Adamowicz in the 58th minute of play forced Gædd FK's goalkeeper Tor-Ivar Mæhle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kjartan Kroken could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Przemyslaw Taffarel made a huge save. In the 65th match minute, Zacisze Częstochowa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Karol Kolbe to maneuver through the defense. When the match clock showed 81 minutes, the score became 3-1 when Walery Adamowicz sped through Gædd FK's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Tor-Ivar Mæhle. Kjartan Kroken fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Przemyslaw Taffarel having to interfere. In the 94th minute, Gard Borlaug hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Zacisze Częstochowa's Walery Adamowicz got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Edvin Bredesen's late challenge caught a Zacisze Częstochowa's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edvin Bredesen helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Zacisze Częstochowa booed when Gædd FK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edvin Bredesen didn't get a good kick on the ball.
