Thanks to some nice moves Pedro Luís Bertassi could shoot a difficult shot in the 22nd minute, which Percival Prestes however easily saved by the left post. A collision led to A A Arizona getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Chicão Freire hit a great ball. Percival Prestes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Valério Paranaense, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marcinho Velloso during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 36 minutes into the game, one of REAL VASCO RIO:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Manuel Monteiro walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. After having played for 40 minutes, Pedro Luís Bertassi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rodolfo Siqueira came out of the goal and Pedrão Souza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

When Pedrão Souza fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored REAL VASCO RIO's protests and gave Pedrão Souza a yellow card for diving instead. 55 minutes into the match, REAL VASCO RIO's goal looked a bit too open when Pedro Luís Bertassi came free, but Percival Prestes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
