The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s Grigore Mardarie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Celestino Evangelista in the 3rd minute of play. Jairo Alonso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mădălin Brăiloiu, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. 9 minutes into the match, Palermo AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Narcis Aursulesei came free, but Jairo Alonso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jairo Alonso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mădălin Brăiloiu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jairo Alonso came out of the goal in the 13th minute to try and stop a shot by Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s Maxim Strugure. But to his dismay, Maxim Strugure quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 20th minute Mădălin Brăiloiu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jairo Alonso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Celestino Evangelista in the 22nd minute of play forced Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s goalkeeper Grigore Mardarie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 25th minute, Celestino Evangelista reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Grigore Mardarie. The goal made the score 1-1. After 30 minutes, Cosmin Badea mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- and the Palermo AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 30 played minutes Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- got a freekick which was hit by Cosmin Badea. The long shot by Teodosio Stanislao in the 31st minute really tested Grigore Mardarie's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After a rather tough play, Palermo AFC's Bernardino Chuse got a free kick in the 32nd minute. 35 minutes into the match, Mădălin Brăiloiu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jairo Alonso. Palermo AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mădălin Brăiloiu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 37th minute, Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s Mugurel Hojbota seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Mugurel Hojbota the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Mugurel Hojbota had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The supporters of Palermo AFC booed when Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mugurel Hojbota didn't get a good kick on the ball. Teodosio Stanislao took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 39th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Grigore Mardarie. Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Eduard Mihăilescu hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. After 41 played minutes, Palermo AFC's Teodosio Stanislao shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Grigore Mardarie came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Palermo AFC reached it. Jairo Alonso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sorin Manole, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Palermo AFC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- were winning 1-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mădălin Brăiloiu to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- booed when Palermo AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tobias Sasoin didn't get a good kick on the ball. 59 minutes into the match, Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s goal looked a bit too open when Octavio Frascuelo came free, but Grigore Mardarie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Celestino Evangelista's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Grigore Mardarie was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. If Mădălin Brăiloiu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jairo Alonso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mădălin Brăiloiu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 71st match minute, Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mădălin Brăiloiu to maneuver through the defense. Tobias Sasoin took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 81st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Grigore Mardarie. Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Grigore Mardarie didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Octavio Frascuelo went, in the 89th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-3 was the resulting score. The Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM- players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
