In the 10th match minute, Club El Progreso was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Artemio Hegoi to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Humberto Guerau in the 21st minute of play forced Renascença A.C.'s goalkeeper Fred Freire to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 22 played minutes Renascença A.C. got a freekick which was hit by Jairo Jesus. In the 25th minute, Humberto Guerau made a precise shot to the right of Fred Freire. Renascença A.C.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Apolo Ramos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club El Progreso's supporters rose to their feet, but Apolo Ramos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fred Freire breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 30th minute Humberto Guerau shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fred Freire saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Constantino Senen fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club El Progreso's protests and gave Constantino Senen a yellow card for diving instead. After 32 played minutes Club El Progreso got a freekick which was hit by Constantino Senen. After 34 played minutes Club El Progreso got a freekick which was hit by Edgardo Lastur. In the 37th match minute, Renascença A.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Albertinho Coelho to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Club El Progreso booed when Renascença A.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jairo Jesus didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 44th match minute, Renascença A.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fernando Berger to maneuver through the defense. In the 45th minute, Humberto Guerau left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Club El Progreso fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Humberto Guerau made the kick off in the second half. 74 minutes into the game, one of Renascença A.C.:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Fred Freire showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Artemio Hegoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernando Berger in the 83rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Florencio Jaen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Club El Progreso's Florencio Jaen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Valdir Gaspar in the 97th minute of play. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Club El Progreso eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
