Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. 20 minutes into the game, Ian Gillan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Inter de Chillán's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club Sportivo Quilmes the free kick. Eriberto Rast kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Inter de Chillán's Julián Leal got a free kick in the 24th minute. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Odón Mackenzie showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Ulises Fidele's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Odón Mackenzie read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 44th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Eriberto Rast made a kick off. Eriberto Rast could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Alfredo Enekoitz made a huge save. After 53 played minutes Inter de Chillán got a freekick which was hit by Belmiro Traverso. Eriberto Rast recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Eriberto Rast's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 62ndth minute, Alfredo Enekoitz skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. The supporters of Club Sportivo Quilmes booed when Inter de Chillán was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eriberto Rast didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tomás Ermano took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 68th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Odón Mackenzie. Inter de Chillán's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a rather tough play, Club Sportivo Quilmes's Tiburcio Basajaun got a free kick in the 90th minute. Julián Leal got in the 92nd a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Alfredo Enekoitz handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Inter de Chillán walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
