Evelio Acosta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Steff Winnepenninck, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. 8 minutes into the match, Joris Tijs notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Amboy FC's Evelio Acosta. Evelio Acosta was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Genk's Jordi Peten played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Higinio Loramendi in the 12th minute of play. After 21 minutes, Gery Polspoel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Genk and the Amboy FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 21 played minutes Genk got a freekick which was hit by Gery Polspoel. In the 22nd minute of the match Santiago Gabirel sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jordi Peten skillfully saved the ball. 25 minutes into the match, Amboy FC's goal looked a bit too open when Joris Tijs came free, but Evelio Acosta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Genk getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Joris Tijs hit a great ball. 31 minutes into the game, Joris Tijs cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Evelio Acosta was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thanks to some nice moves Inocencio Jokin could shoot a difficult shot in the 35th minute, which Jordi Peten however easily saved by the left post. Genk's Jordi Peten proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Genk from getting a goal against them. Robby de Koninck hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. In the 40th minute, Tommi Renso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 41st minute of the match Santiago Gabirel sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jordi Peten skillfully saved the ball. After the first half Genk were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When Inocencio Jokin came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Amboy FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Inocencio Jokin couldn't finish the play. Jordi Peten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Domingos Pasqual in the 65th minute of play. After having played for 71 minutes, Steff Winnepenninck managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Genk's supporters crossed their fingers, but Steff Winnepenninck was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Inocencio Jokin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jordi Peten having to interfere. With a little luck, Amboy FC's Evelio Acosta got control of the ball when Ivo De Backer tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jordi Peten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Domingos Pasqual in the 87th minute of play. Jordi Peten showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joaquin Ipar in the 90th minute of the match. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Genk eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
