Radu Dacian's late challenge caught a Academia Rio's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Radu Dacian helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Academia Rio booed when C Ａ R D I N Ａ L was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Academia Rio's Iurie Mutu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Radu Dacian in the 29th minute of play. Radu Dacian stood ready after the free kick and tried to head the ball into the goal, but got pushed from behind by one of Academia Rio's defenders and the ball went out. C Ａ R D I N Ａ L appealed in vain for a penalty, the referee looked over at the linesman, but the flag stayed down. No Penalty. In the 37th match minute, C Ａ R D I N Ａ L was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mai Sugoi to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Academia Rio getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Horia Berceanu hit a great ball. Claudiu Gioagă recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sever Vintilescu was the one to do the kick off. Horia Berceanu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 92nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Valeriu Petruț. C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The C Ａ R D I N Ａ L supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing C Ａ R D I N Ａ L would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
