Witold Niedzwiecki showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Vítor Rodrigues, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Zé Carlos de Azevedo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Witold Niedzwiecki having to interfere. A collision led to Przełęcz Dukla getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Feliks Walentowicz hit a great ball. In the 23rd match minute, Independente FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Germano Araújo to maneuver through the defense. In the 27th minute Tadeusz Galus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nestor Quintal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gilberto Gonçalves took the ball and in the 38 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Witold Niedzwiecki. Witold Niedzwiecki dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. 43 minutes into the match, Independente FC's goal looked a bit too open when Tadeusz Galus came free, but Nestor Quintal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tadeusz Galus to make the kick off. Independente FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tadeusz Galus was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Independente FC's Nestor Quintal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kazimierz Harendarski in the 72nd minute of play. In the 74th minute Tadeusz Galus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nestor Quintal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 75 played minutes Independente FC got a freekick which was hit by Zé Carlos de Azevedo. After a rather tough play, Independente FC's Zé Carlos de Azevedo got a free kick in the 76th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tadeusz Galus in the 78th minute of play forced Independente FC's goalkeeper Nestor Quintal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nestor Quintal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tadeusz Galus, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 84th match minute, Przełęcz Dukla was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tadeusz Galus to maneuver through the defense. If Zé Carlos de Azevedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
