Danilo Frascuelo came out of the goal in the 15th minute to try and stop a shot by Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's Ovidiu Negoescu. But to his dismay, Ovidiu Negoescu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ovidiu Negoescu in the 17th minute of play forced NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper Danilo Frascuelo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ovidiu Negoescu took the ball and in the 17 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Danilo Frascuelo. Danilo Frascuelo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. In the 23rdth minute of the game Calistrat Baicea who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Danilo Frascuelo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of NEWELL´S OLD BOYS booed when Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Avram Bot didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 29th minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Amancio Magdaleno dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. Manuel Gherase fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danilo Frascuelo having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Ovidiu Negoescu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's supporters rose to their feet, but Ovidiu Negoescu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Danilo Frascuelo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Isac Bucurescu charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Isac Bucurescu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 37 played minutes Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely got a freekick which was hit by Isac Bucurescu. Ovidiu Negoescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danilo Frascuelo having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 48th minute, Ovidiu Negoescu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's supporters rose to their feet, but Ovidiu Negoescu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Danilo Frascuelo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Petre Prezan's late challenge caught a NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Petre Prezan helped the player get up and apologised. Petre Prezan kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. Calistrat Baicea took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Danilo Frascuelo. Danilo Frascuelo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Mihail Gheție showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aurelio Hitz, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. 66 minutes into the match, Nistor Cantemir had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Danilo Frascuelo. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nistor Cantemir was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-4. After 68 minutes, Amancio Magdaleno mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS and the Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely players grew even worse after the yellow card. Amancio Magdaleno kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. After 72 minutes of play NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Amancio Magdaleno was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 73rd match minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amancio Magdaleno to maneuver through the defense. Nistor Cantemir fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danilo Frascuelo having to interfere. Calistrat Baicea fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danilo Frascuelo having to interfere. After having played for 89 minutes, Calistrat Baicea managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Erdélyi SE Marosvásárhely's supporters crossed their fingers, but Calistrat Baicea was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's zone, Ovidiu Negoescu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Danilo Frascuelo came out of the goal and Ovidiu Negoescu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nistor Cantemir came free with the goalkeeper in the 96th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Danilo Frascuelo could save by the left post.
