After some careless play in the Ágætis Byrjun defense, Ademir Carvalho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ab Veenema. The Ágætis Byrjun fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ab Veenema should have stopped the shot. The crowd rose to their feet as Robin Willemsen kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Benedito Nóbrega. That made the score 1-1 in the 10 minute of play. 12 minutes into the game, Dráusio Toscano was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Galo do Japi's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ágætis Byrjun the free kick. After 12 played minutes Galo do Japi got a freekick which was hit by Dráusio Toscano. In the 14th minute, Dráusio Toscano ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ab Veenema was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Benedito Nóbrega stood somewhat misplaced when Edgar Buys came free in front of goal and shot 2-2 to the left of him in the 18 minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dráusio Toscano in the 21st minute of play forced Ágætis Byrjun's goalkeeper Ab Veenema to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kléber Koehler hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Benedito Nóbrega showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robin Willemsen, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Brain Diest scored 3-2 in the 38th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benedito Nóbrega, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 42nd minute, Ágætis Byrjun's Robin Willemsen dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 4-2. Denílson Urbano struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Ab Veenema didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Galo do Japi.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luís Madureira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Boukjan Schalkwijk kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Luís Madureira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The corner led Ágætis Byrjun's Edgar Buys to fire away a dangerous shot which Benedito Nóbrega despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After 59 played minutes Ágætis Byrjun got a freekick which was hit by Robin Willemsen. When Brain Diest came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Ágætis Byrjun fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brain Diest couldn't finish the play. Ágætis Byrjun's Ab Veenema played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dráusio Toscano in the 65th minute of play. Benedito Nóbrega made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robin Willemsen in the 67th minute of play. Benedito Nóbrega showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Brain Diest, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. In the 72nd minute, Orlando Arruda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Robin Willemsen fell near the penalty area in the 77th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ágætis Byrjun's protests and gave Robin Willemsen a yellow card for diving instead. In the 77th match minute, Ágætis Byrjun was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Robin Willemsen to maneuver through the defense. In the 79th minute Brain Diest shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benedito Nóbrega saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benedito Nóbrega showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brain Diest in the 82nd minute of the match. Kléber Koehler kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. In the 95th minute, Taco Westerink hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Galo do Japi's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
