Oxford United's Alonzo Dykes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ashley Bäßler in the 4th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ashley Bäßler in the 4th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alonzo Dykes saved Oxford United from getting behind. In the 5th minute, Young Wolfe got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dan Haug in the 10th minute of play forced Oxford United's goalkeeper Alonzo Dykes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 14 minutes into the match, Hansa Rostock's goal looked a bit too open when Cody Hall came free, but Davor Saller reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alonzo Dykes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ilja Wöllner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 18 played minutes Oxford United got a freekick which was hit by Von DeJesus. In the 20th match minute, Hansa Rostock was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Werner Jahn to maneuver through the defense. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 29th minute of the game. One of Hansa Rostock:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Oxford United:s goal. In the 30th minute, Norbert Patel ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Davor Saller was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Alonzo Dykes came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by Hansa Rostock's Ilja Wöllner. But to his dismay, Ilja Wöllner quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. The throw-in from Werner Jahn in the 41st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Oxford United's Victor Wolf. Davor Saller made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Young Wolfe in the 42nd minute of play. Ashley Bäßler blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alonzo Dykes having to make a save. After 45 played minutes Oxford United got a freekick which was hit by Abdul Wood. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 54 minutes, Dillon Dotson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Oxford United and the Hansa Rostock players grew even worse after the yellow card. Davor Saller stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Young Wolfe's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Timur Pilz in the 58th minute of play forced Oxford United's goalkeeper Alonzo Dykes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Davor Saller took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Young Wolfe, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 62 minutes in the game Werner Jahn did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Tobias Holstein. In the 63rd minute Young Wolfe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Davor Saller saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 67th minute, Whitney Erickson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 73 minutes, Ilja Wöllner took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Alonzo Dykes to make any attempt to save it. A collision led to Hansa Rostock getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Werner Jahn hit a great ball. Young Wolfe's late challenge caught a Hansa Rostock's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Young Wolfe helped the player get up and apologised. After 78 played minutes Oxford United got a freekick which was hit by Young Wolfe. The audience was convinced that Ashley Bäßler's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alonzo Dykes was relentless in the 80th minute of the game. 81 minutes into the match, Oxford United's goal looked a bit too open when Ilja Wöllner came free, but Alonzo Dykes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ilja Wöllner was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 82nd minute. Hansa Rostock's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. A throw-in in the 87th minute of the game was made by Von DeJesus with Felipe Wise as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Alonzo Dykes was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Timur Pilz showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-3 in the 89 minute of play. After 94 played minutes Hansa Rostock got a freekick which was hit by Ilja Wöllner. Hansa Rostock's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
