Ingvar Strand blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dida Taffarel having to make a save. The throw-in from Toby Major in the 20th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Red John S.K's Jakue Llave. Red John S.K's Cássio Corinth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Martins in the 22nd minute of play. Ingvar Strand received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Dida Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Toby Major made in the 29th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Red John S.K's Jakue Llave. 30 minutes into the game, Red John S.K's Ingvar Strand nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dida Taffarel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. With a little luck, Red John S.K's Cássio Corinth got control of the ball when Dorian Moraes tried to sneak it across the goal line. Denílson Lopes was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 45th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ingvar Strand to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Red John S.K's Caetano Reyo got a free kick in the 71st minute.
