Paysandu's Hélder Marquez was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Percy Fernandez in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Paysandu's Cléber Pinho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Doctor Strange in the 23rd minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Sport Clube Recife's Doctor Strange nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cléber Pinho made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Doctor Strange in the 31st minute of play forced Paysandu's goalkeeper Cléber Pinho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Doctor Strange in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cléber Pinho saved Paysandu from getting behind. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dida Mesquita to strike the kick off in the second half. Cléber Pinho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doctor Strange, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Sport Clube Recife played a much better game than Paysandu and deserved their victory. The Paysandu players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
