The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Sousa in the 5th minute of play. Thomás Toscano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfredo Martins in the 7th minute of the match. Dida Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alexandre Netto in the 13th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dorian Moraes in the 15th minute of play forced Capibaribe Stars's goalkeeper Thomás Toscano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 20 minutes into the match, Daniel Sousa notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel. Dida Taffarel was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Atalay Turkay in the 25th minute of play. In the 27th minute German Cano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thomás Toscano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Jairo Neto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alexandre Netto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dida Taffarel having to interfere. Thomás Toscano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dida Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Sousa in the 42nd minute of play. In the 43rd match minute, Marquês de Herval was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jon Grøneng to maneuver through the defense. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Sousa to make the kick off. 55 minutes into the match, Daniel Sousa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dida Taffarel. Marquês de Herval's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Sousa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Capibaribe Stars's Flóki Factor was substituted for Daniel Sousa. Flóki Factor took the ball and in the 62 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dida Taffarel. Dida Taffarel dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. Dida Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flóki Factor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Flóki Factor struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Dida Taffarel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Capibaribe Stars. Dida Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Flóki Factor, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. After having played for 74 minutes, Flóki Factor managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Capibaribe Stars's supporters crossed their fingers, but Flóki Factor was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. German Cano scored 1-3 in the 79th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Thomás Toscano, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dida Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Flóki Factor in the 84th minute. 87 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goal looked a bit too open when Flóki Factor came free, but Dida Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Flóki Factor in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dida Taffarel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jon Grøneng hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. Capibaribe Stars's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
