Andy Cole started the match with the kick off. Egun Pais showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Deilmison van Basten in the 5th minute of the match. ATHLETICO PRaiano were awarded a corner in the 7th minute after Floresta Negra FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Vitor Beckenbauer took the corner. After taking down the ball on ATHLETICO PRaiano's corner Vitor Beckenbauer fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Egun Pais quite easily take care of the ball. 10 minutes into the match, ATHLETICO PRaiano's goal looked a bit too open when Andy Cole came free, but Rodriguinho Sousa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Egun Pais took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Deilmison van Basten, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Egun Pais made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf Albäck in the 16th minute of play. After 21 played minutes Floresta Negra FC got a freekick which was hit by Gernando Rocha. In the 22nd minute Deilmison van Basten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Egun Pais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 25 minutes into the match, ATHLETICO PRaiano's goalkeeper Rodriguinho Sousa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Andy Cole. The audience was convinced that Ralf Albäck's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Egun Pais was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. The corner led ATHLETICO PRaiano's Denílson Magalhães to fire away a dangerous shot which Egun Pais despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Deilmison van Basten was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, ATHLETICO PRaiano's Gaétan Govou got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Rodriguinho Sousa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Andy Cole, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andy Cole in the 60th minute of play forced ATHLETICO PRaiano's goalkeeper Rodriguinho Sousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Egun Pais showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ralf Albäck, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. In the 65thth minute of the game Andy Cole who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but ATHLETICO PRaiano's Rodriguinho Sousa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With his leg Egun Pais managed to avoid a goal in the 67thth minute, when ATHLETICO PRaiano's Deilmison van Basten fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Floresta Negra FC's Egun Pais proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Floresta Negra FC from getting a goal against them. Egun Pais made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Deilmison van Basten sent off a good shot on target. Milen Kúlvachev might have been able to make a better finish in the 73rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rodriguinho Sousa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Egun Pais made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf Albäck in the 88th minute of play. Deilmison van Basten sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The supporters of Floresta Negra FC booed when ATHLETICO PRaiano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Denílson Magalhães didn't get a good kick on the ball. The ATHLETICO PRaiano supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing ATHLETICO PRaiano would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
