The audience thought a goal was coming when Alfonso Goicoechea got free with Victoriano Bernaldo in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Pankracy Glogowski took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Darryl Buckner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dep Colonia Avellaneda's Darryl Buckner got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Remigio Erramu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 15 minutes of play, Dep Colonia Avellaneda's Darryl Buckner made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Pankracy Glogowski was left in no man's land by his defense there! Leopoldo Rosa hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Fabio Artaldo charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fabio Artaldo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 34 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Club Atlético Atlanta! Pankracy Glogowski had in the 35thth minute some difficulties stopping Santo Libertad's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Dep Colonia Avellaneda's Victoriano Bernaldo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anselmo Nevada in the 39th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Club Atlético Atlanta's zone, Darryl Buckner stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pankracy Glogowski came out of the goal and Darryl Buckner tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Darryl Buckner managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dep Colonia Avellaneda's supporters rose to their feet, but Darryl Buckner was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pankracy Glogowski breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Claudio Cerritos was slow to take the kick. During this time Dep Colonia Avellaneda's players had a chance to rest. The audience was convinced that Eustaquio Jaizki's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Victoriano Bernaldo was relentless in the 88th minute of the game.
