Elpidio Francis showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 5-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 5-0.

Sporting de Gijón's Wayne Rooney was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Elpidio Francis to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wayne Rooney in the 53rd minute of play forced ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's goalkeeper Branislav Velchevski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
