The CD Municipal fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that George Forsyth should have stopped the shot. George Forsyth took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ferdinand Condrea, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 12th minute Victor Piţurcă shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Forsyth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Emerald's Bogdan Lobonț played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Palle Tazon in the 13th minute of play. 19 minutes into the match, Emerald's goalkeeper Bogdan Lobonț had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arnulfo Camus. Victor Piţurcă scored 0-2 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of George Forsyth, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jaime Carioca made in the 23rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by CD Municipal's Rodrigo De Paul. If Victor Piţurcă had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bogdan Lobonț made a fantastic save in the 34th minute, when Arnulfo Camus sent off a good shot on target. Palle Tazon spun around in front of the goal 36 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Emerald's goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arnulfo Camus got free with Bogdan Lobonț in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arnulfo Camus could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Bogdan Lobonț made a huge save. After 45 played minutes CD Municipal got a freekick which was hit by Herbert Raha. After a defensive mix-up in CD Municipal's zone, Damian Furlit stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. George Forsyth came out of the goal and Damian Furlit tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half Emerald were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Palle Tazon stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to CD Municipal getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Aldomiro Urioste hit a great ball. CD Municipal's George Forsyth proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save CD Municipal from getting a goal against them. Emerald's supporters rose to their feet, but Victor Piţurcă was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. George Forsyth breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. George Forsyth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Victor Piţurcă in the 78th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Victor Piţurcă's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but George Forsyth was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. Victor Piţurcă kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. George Forsyth was a little too slow when Victor Piţurcă got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 96th minute. The score was now 0-4. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Emerald eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
