Spectators: 44 (Terracing: 34, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Olgierd Dawiec received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Óscar Cordoba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kyle Thake sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matias Bilintx in the 12th minute of play forced Floriana Celtics's goalkeeper Richard Lentini to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Kyle Thake managed to get in a good position for a shot. Floriana Celtics's supporters rose to their feet, but Kyle Thake was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Óscar Cordoba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matias Bilintx in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Richard Lentini saved Floriana Celtics from getting behind. Richard Lentini made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matias Bilintx in the 18th minute of play. If Kyle Thake had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Richard Lentini took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 24th minute Wayne Rooney shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Lentini saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kyle Thake in the 34th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the game's 35th minute Floriana Celtics's Godwin Montesin took a hard shot from long distance, a kick which went into the net just to the right of Óscar Cordoba and thus the score was 1-0. 37 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Kyle Thake came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Olgierd Dawiec could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Óscar Cordoba made a huge save. Richard Lentini showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wayne Rooney in the 44th minute of the match. Wayne Rooney received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Richard Lentini tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Matias Bilintx got free with Richard Lentini in the 61st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 63 played minutes Floriana Celtics got a freekick which was hit by Mike Stivala. Richard Lentini showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matias Bilintx, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner in the 65th minute after Floriana Celtics's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Saturnino Curcio took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Saturnino Curcio got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Richard Lentini quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Matias Bilintx's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Richard Lentini read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. Floriana Celtics's Robby Baggio was substituted for Olgierd Dawiec. Floriana Celtics's Claudio Bailey was substituted for Godwin Montesin. Floriana Celtics made a substitution. Edward Ellis replaced Giorgio Caruana. Sporting de Gijón's Diego Maradona quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Mike Stivala, made in the 78th minute of the game. Sporting de Gijón's attentive Diego Maradona managed to snatch the ball when Mike Stivala made a throw-in in the 92nd minute of the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Daniele Boffa during the 93rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Floriana Celtics's Richard Lentini proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 100th minute of the match, managed to save Floriana Celtics from getting a goal against them. When the referee ended the match the Floriana Celtics players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
