But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Amauri Sampaio couldn't finish the play. After 22 minutes, Baltazar Sampaio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Capivara FC and the Brasiliense FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Brasiliense FC's Luís Fábio Goiano was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 25th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. When Guto Bastos fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Capivara FC's protests and gave Guto Bastos a yellow card for diving instead. Agostinho Mendes who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 29thth minute tested the skills of João Francisco Viana when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 34 played minutes Capivara FC got a freekick which was hit by Narciso de Barros. Amauri Sampaio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Agostinho Mendes got free with João Francisco Viana in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 39th minute of the match Brasiliense FC got a corner. Capivara FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Wilson Paulista ran over to the corner to take the kick. Brasiliense FC's Wilson Paulista was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but João Francisco Viana in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After a rather tough play, Brasiliense FC's Luís Fábio Goiano got a free kick in the 42nd minute. The supporters of Capivara FC booed when Brasiliense FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabinho Toledo didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luís Fábio Goiano to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fábio Goiano in the 54th minute of play forced Capivara FC's goalkeeper João Francisco Viana to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
