The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, U21 Portugal's Ivaylo Yordanov sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Xilo Cortada narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Montay Lorenzo charged in rather forcefully in the 4th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Montay Lorenzo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Montay Lorenzo kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. When U21 Portugal's Ivaylo Yordanov in the 6th minute got a chance for a shot 6th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 Colombia's goalie prevented a goal. 8 minutes into the game, U21 Portugal's Ivaylo Yordanov nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Xilo Cortada made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Ivaylo Yordanov might have been able to make a better finish in the 12th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Xilo Cortada. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ivaylo Yordanov ran back to his position shaking his head. Ivaylo Yordanov could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Xilo Cortada made a huge save. If Ivaylo Yordanov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 25th play minute Ivaylo Yordanov came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Xilo Cortada. 2-0. Xilo Cortada made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ivaylo Yordanov in the 29th minute. If Ivaylo Yordanov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Ivaylo Yordanov kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Xilo Cortada. That made the score 3-0 in the 33 minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Colombia's zone, Jordão Vasques stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Xilo Cortada came out of the goal and Jordão Vasques tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ivaylo Yordanov got free with Xilo Cortada in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Antero Linhares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ortle Sancho in the 41st minute of play. Xilo Cortada didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 43rd minute, which inside left pole to 4-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

U21 Portugal's Mustapha Hadji was substituted for Adam George. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Xines Ruidiaz to strike the kick off in the second half. Ivaylo Yordanov's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Xilo Cortada read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. Jordão Vasques sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Xilo Cortada made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ivaylo Yordanov in the 58th minute of play. Antero Linhares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ortle Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Jordão Vasques recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 70 minutes into the game, U21 Portugal's Ivaylo Yordanov nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Xilo Cortada made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. A collision led to U21 Portugal getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Ivaylo Yordanov hit a great ball. The supporters of U21 Colombia booed when U21 Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isidoro Vilarinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 86th minute, Adalberto Bomba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Antero Linhares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Xines Ruidiaz in the 87th minute of play. Xilo Cortada came out of the goal in the 89th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Portugal's Xavier Carvalhal. But to his dismay, Xavier Carvalhal quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 6-0. Nemanja Vidic fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Antero Linhares having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. U21 Portugal had won after a very even match.
