The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With an all-out effort, FC Lugano's Taco Zwartkruis threw himself towards the right post 2 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Khachonkiat Pornsaptaveekoon, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ray Büeler in the 4th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Taco Zwartkruis saved Julias Rascals Apeldoorn from getting behind. In the 8th minute, FC Lugano's Vico Sticher dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. The supporters of FC Lugano booed when Julias Rascals Apeldoorn was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Julian Kool didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nathongchai Borwongovitsakul could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Taco Zwartkruis made a huge save. Nathongchai Borwongovitsakul received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Taco Zwartkruis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Khachonkiat Pornsaptaveekoon in the 28th minute of play forced Julias Rascals Apeldoorn's goalkeeper Taco Zwartkruis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Godo Gøl made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roelof van Kampen in the 30th minute of play. Julias Rascals Apeldoorn's Taco Zwartkruis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Julias Rascals Apeldoorn from getting a goal against them. Nathongchai Borwongovitsakul took the ball and in the 31 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Taco Zwartkruis. Taco Zwartkruis dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. FC Lugano made a substitution. Qiao Jian replaced Ray Büeler. An unexpectedly hard shot by Govert Kool in the 43rd minute of play forced FC Lugano's goalkeeper Godo Gøl to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Taco Zwartkruis made an important save on a dangerous shot by Qiao Jian in the 44th minute. Qiao Jian who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 46thth minute tested the skills of Taco Zwartkruis when he managed to save the team from getting behind. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Govert Kool was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd match minute, FC Lugano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gregor Wirth to maneuver through the defense. Taco Zwartkruis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vico Sticher, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Qiao Jian in the 57th minute of play forced Julias Rascals Apeldoorn's goalkeeper Taco Zwartkruis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vico Sticher scored 3-1 in the 63rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Taco Zwartkruis, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 66th minute, Vico Sticher managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Lugano's supporters rose to their feet, but Vico Sticher was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. FC Lugano's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
