When Ovidiu Buturugã came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the Moldova fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ovidiu Buturugã couldn't finish the play. Moldova's George Buturugã played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hilário Bento in the 11th minute of play. Iurie Macovei's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but A.J. 关平 read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. 38 minutes into the match, Moldova's goal looked a bit too open when Hilário Bento came free, but George Buturugã reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Larry Hallam in the 40th minute of play forced Moldova's goalkeeper George Buturugã to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Clemente Cisneros could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but George Buturugã made a huge save. The supporters of Moldova booed when Vivant was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elvis Tek didn't get a good kick on the ball. Moldova made a substitution. Ruslan Izmanã replaced Sandu Vasiliu. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
