An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmundo Fontão in the 47th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Hilario Pesquera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 5-1.

A very good chance for a goal. 61 minutes into the match, Angola's goal looked a bit too open when Dario Betzanos came free, but Lourenço Polido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hilario Pesquera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Custódio Lima Clemente's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. After a rather tough play, Angola's Fábio Quilempan got a free kick in the 83rd minute. 94 minutes into the game, Ireno Peon threw the ball into play from the sideline. Angola's Miguel Cunha quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Hilario Pesquera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Custódio Lima Clemente in the 95th minute. For all the effort they put into the match, the Angola players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Uruguay.
