In the 9th minute Dé Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Forsyth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 14th minute, Enrique Cassaretto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Carlos Augusto Quintal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Enrique Cassaretto in the 16th minute of the match. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind CD Municipal's goalkeeper George Forsyth, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 27 minutes of play, CD Municipal's Enrique Cassaretto made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Carlos Augusto Quintal was left in no man's land by his defense there! Carlos Augusto Quintal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Enrique Cassaretto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Enrique Cassaretto might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Carlos Augusto Quintal. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Enrique Cassaretto ran back to his position shaking his head. 31 minutes into the match, Várzea F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Enrique Cassaretto came free, but Carlos Augusto Quintal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dé Montenegro kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. George Forsyth took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dé Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. George Forsyth was a little too slow when Dé Montenegro got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 40th minute. The score was now 1-1. A collision led to Várzea F.C. getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Alf Tennenbaum hit a great ball. In the 46th minute of the match Aureliano Buendia sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Carlos Augusto Quintal skillfully saved the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Enrique Cassaretto to make the kick off. The throw-in from Gustavo Porto in the 54th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by CD Municipal's Yunus Mahşer. Enrique Cassaretto received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Carlos Augusto Quintal came out and tried to block the shot, but Enrique Cassaretto slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 55th minute. A collision led to CD Municipal getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Enrique Cassaretto hit a great ball. 62 minutes into the match, Várzea F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Enrique Cassaretto came free, but Carlos Augusto Quintal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. CD Municipal's Gunnar Ekrot was substituted for Zlatan Molina. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Várzea F.C.'s goalie and right to Tulio Andinyach. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Várzea F.C.'s manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 74th minute, Enrique Cassaretto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Várzea F.C. made a substitution. Valdomiro Duarte replaced Dé Montenegro. Gustavo Porto made in the 78th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Luiz Eduardo Alcântara. In the 82nd minute CD Municipal were awarded a corner. Aureliano Buendia went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Aureliano Buendia almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Várzea F.C.'s Carlos Augusto Quintal did a great save. In the 85th minute Valdomiro Duarte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Forsyth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Enrique Cassaretto got free with Carlos Augusto Quintal in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 90th minute, Enrique Cassaretto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A sloppy throw-in by Călin Morovan in the 92nd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Várzea F.C.'s Gustavo Porto.

CD Municipal's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
