An unexpectedly hard shot by Lei Feng Yan in the 4th minute of play forced CD Municipal's goalkeeper George Forsyth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 9 played minutes S.E.R. Caxias do Sul got a freekick which was hit by Lucio Siekkötter. In the 11th minute of the match CD Municipal got a corner. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Aureliano Buendia ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on CD Municipal's corner Aureliano Buendia fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Aurelio Walme quite easily take care of the ball. Enrique Cassaretto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Aurelio Walme proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save S.E.R. Caxias do Sul from getting a goal against them. George Forsyth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Owsiak in the 14th minute of play. With an all-out effort, CD Municipal's Aurelio Walme threw himself towards the right post 18 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Evtim Kúrdzhev, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 20th minute, Enrique Cassaretto reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Aurelio Walme. The goal made the score 1-0. A hard shot 30 in the game by Enrique Cassaretto from a close distance when the talented Aurelio Walme managed to make a qualified save. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's players were relieved. 32 minutes into the match, CD Municipal's Enrique Cassaretto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Aurelio Walme narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 37 minutes into the match, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul defense, Enrique Cassaretto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Aurelio Walme. The S.E.R. Caxias do Sul fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Aurelio Walme should have stopped the shot. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Bai Cheng Kang was substituted for Wellington Fonseca. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

When the match had gone on for 55 minutes, Renato Augusto took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for George Forsyth to make any attempt to save it. CD Municipal made a substitution. George Forsyth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Owsiak in the 69th minute of the match. In the 71st minute Renato Augusto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Forsyth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Aurelio Walme played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enrique Cassaretto in the 74th minute of play. Daniel Owsiak fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without George Forsyth having to interfere. After having played for 80 minutes, Enrique Cassaretto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CD Municipal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Enrique Cassaretto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Owsiak in the 84th minute of play forced CD Municipal's goalkeeper George Forsyth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 85 minutes CD Municipal's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Lei Feng Yan who took care of the corner kick. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Aurelio Walme played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enrique Cassaretto in the 91st minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for CD Municipal.
