In the 32nd match minute, Slovenia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Silvester Čuvan to maneuver through the defense. 33 minutes into the match, Slovenia's goal looked a bit too open when Ervigio Ojeda came free, but Klemen Mikuž reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 38 minutes, Ožbolt Radunović mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Slovenia and the Chile players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ožbolt Radunović kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Rogelio Mendiola managed to get in a good position for a shot. Chile's supporters rose to their feet, but Rogelio Mendiola was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Klemen Mikuž breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 45 minutes into the game, Silvester Čuvan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Slovenia's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chile the free kick. After the first half Chile were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After a defensive mix-up in Slovenia's zone, Ervigio Ojeda stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Klemen Mikuž came out of the goal and Ervigio Ojeda tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ervigio Ojeda in the 55th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Klemen Mikuž prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Klemen Mikuž showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ervigio Ojeda in the 60th minute of the match. Chile's Alfonso Goicoechea was substituted for Rogelio Mendiola. Chile's Claudio-Paul Pirinchev was substituted for Peter Talvik. Slovenia's Svetomir Maier managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Juan Ramírez in the 63 minute of the game. Armando Vogrinčič scored 1-1 in the 65th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Enrique Enoch, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Slovenia made a substitution. Ožbalt Ajdič replaced Dagmar Zupančič. 71 minutes into the game, Don Domingo threw the ball into play from the sideline. Slovenia's Armando Vogrinčič quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. In the 74th minute Claudio-Paul Pirinchev shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Klemen Mikuž saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 77th minute, Armando Vogrinčič ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Enrique Enoch was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Alfonso Goicoecheas short, quick shot in the 84thth minute got Klemen Mikuž to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 89 minutes into the match, Slovenia's goalkeeper Klemen Mikuž had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alfonso Goicoechea. Klemen Mikuž made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudio-Paul Pirinchev in the 91st minute of play. Klemen Mikuž showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Claudio-Paul Pirinchev in the 92nd minute of the match. Juan Ramírez made in the 95th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Claudio-Paul Pirinchev immediately put the ball in play. Carlo Darrigrande in the 96thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Klemen Mikuž, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save.
