The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Dorin Arșanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Armando Maradona in the 6th minute of play. Rovine Craiova's Dorin Arșanu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Rovine Craiova from getting a goal against them. The referee felt a red card was in order, 16 minutes into the game, when Nae Corbuț put in a rough tackle. A collision led to C Ａ R D I N Ａ L getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Nae Corbuț hit a great ball. C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's Ingvar Hellkvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Virgil Vergulescu in the 18th minute of play. Dorin Arșanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robert Ţugui, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Robert Ţugui was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 37th minute. C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Virgil Vergulescu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ingvar Hellkvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dacian Patrichi in the 50th minute of play. Angelo Rage sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edmund Przybyciel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dorin Arșanu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. After 58 minutes Rovine Craiova's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Filip Tăcutu who took care of the corner kick. The supporters of Rovine Craiova booed when C Ａ R D I N Ａ L was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angelo Rage didn't get a good kick on the ball. C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's Emanuel Buciuman was substituted for Paul Cangeopol. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emanuel Buciuman in the 75th minute of play forced Rovine Craiova's goalkeeper Dorin Arșanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rovine Craiova's Dorin Arșanu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Angelo Rage in the 79th minute of play. Ingvar Hellkvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Valer Lobonț, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. Dorin Arșanu came out of the goal in the 84th minute to try and stop a shot by C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's Emanuel Buciuman. But to his dismay, Emanuel Buciuman quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. 89 minutes into the match, C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's goalkeeper Ingvar Hellkvist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adam Vasiloiu. After 90 played minutes Rovine Craiova got a freekick which was hit by Manole Grozăvescu. 92 minutes into the match, Rovine Craiova's goal looked a bit too open when Emanuel Buciuman came free, but Dorin Arșanu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Basarab Teleagă blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ingvar Hellkvist having to make a save. C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
