The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Enzo Bearzot made in the 5th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Montesacro FC's Diego Odger. After a rather tough play, Villa Gordiani's Ferruccio Prandini got a free kick in the 6th minute. A hard shot by Alberigo Colaneri from long distance, 7 minutes into the match, got Ciro Del Vecchio's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Fabiano Barillari showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adriano Barone in the 9th minute of the match. Alberigo Biscotti hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. Ciro Del Vecchio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ciro Di Martino, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Ferruccio Gelsomini kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Montesacro FC's Daniele Tabacco got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Daniele Tabacco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ciro Del Vecchio having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Anselmo Robbiati to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute Ciro Di Martino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ciro Del Vecchio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Attilio Verdone kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. Ciro Di Martino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Villa Gordiani's Ciro Del Vecchio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciro Di Martino in the 58th minute of play.
